The Metropole

About This Location

Built as a hotel nearly 100 years ago, the Metropole is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the 1970's it was converted to low-income apartments. In November 2009, it was announced that it would be restored to a hotel and would feature 160 rooms, a restaurant and a contemporary art museum. The announcement was met with resentment from the current residents and there is a legal dispute brewing.

About the Mural

Peace Guard was created in collaboration with Kai Regan, best known for his work in the iconic iPod commercials. Created in 2008, it's indicative of Fairey's recent focus: the pursuit of peace. Given the anger triggered by the relocation of residents, it is an appropriate image.
